Angela Yphantides
, Commissioning Manager for Primary Care and Mental Health at Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trust, introduces the Borough’s new Mental Health Strategy discussion document, and ask for your comments:
For a long time Tower Hamlets has needed an integrated vision for mental health – one that joins up services and really improves quality of life for service users. The Adult Mental Health Partnership Board, including Social Services, the Primary Care Trust, East London and City Mental Health Trust, Supporting People, the voluntary sector and service users and carers are now jointly working on a Mental Health Strategy to achieve this vision. At present the strategy is a discussion document, and so we want your views on the Strategy. Framed as a series of questions with the relevant needs information, we hope that you’ll be able to respond to all the issues raised. The Strategy aims to steer the direction of travel for mental health services in the Borough towards a focus on recovery, social inclusion and diversity. It includes a focus on the new hospital at Mile End and community based services. The emphasis is on assisting users to manage their mental health and well-being, respect and rights, and enabling people to participate fully in society.
We know that supported housing and floating support play a vital role for service users, and we hope this will be reflected in the strategy. So please tell us what you think – how we can meet the needs of the whole community, support social inclusion, help carers, meet the needs of older people and much more.
