Abstract: Draft Guidance on Housing and Support Options for people with learning disabilities

(Also in Consultation Papers)

THis guidance has been produced jointly by ODPM and DH. It aims to help local authorities, Supporting People Partnerships to plan their provision of housing and support for people with learning disabilities. SP lead officers will be aware, that, as part of the implementation of "Valuing People" the white paper on learning disabilities - local authorities have set up Learning Disability Partnership Boards. Each LD Partnership Board is required to develop a housing strategy for people with learning disabilities by winter 2002/2003. It is important that they develop good links with Supporting People To help this process this guide discusses the range and choice of housing open to people with learning disabilities in order to enable them to live as independently as possible.

The guide has been issued in draft at this stage and comments are invited by 25 September 2002.

These should be sent by email to david.mowat@doh.gsi.gov.uk.

(A copy of the draft guidance is also on the DH website at www.doh.gov.uk/learningdisabilities)
